The Role Of Waste Bank In Waste Management In Pekanbaru City

Abstract

Waste banks have become a model for waste management in several cities, this is supported by the Regulation of the Minister of Environment and Forestry of the Republic of Indonesia number 14 of 2021 concerning waste management in waste banks. Pekanbaru City has 4 main waste banks, namely the Dalang Collection Waste Bank, the Hijau Lestari Terus Waste Bank, the Tuan Dibangarna Waste Bank and the Lancang Kuning University (Unilak) Waste Bank. It is necessary to see how the presence of this waste bank contributes to waste management in Pekanbaru City. This qualitative research is used to see the effectiveness of waste management from institutional aspects, financing, legal basis, community participation and operational techniques. From the results obtained, the average waste produced by the community in Pekanbaru City is 1000 tons per day, while the waste that can be managed through waste banks per day is less than 1% of 1000 tons per day. Even though waste management through waste banks contains educational, environmental and economic value, a more serious commitment from the government is needed to support the waste bank program
