The Effect Of Leadership, Work Environment And Competence On Teacher Performance With Commitment As An Intervening Variable At Madrasah Aliyah, Basma Darul'ilmi Wassa'adah Islamic Boarding School, Rokan Hulu Regency
Abstract
This study aims to analyze the influence of leadership, work environment, and competence on commitment, as well as its impact on teacher performance with commitment as an intervening variable at Madrasah Aliyah Pondok Pesantren Basma Darul'Ilmi Wassa'adah, Rokan Hulu Regency.
The type of research used is associative research with a quantitative approach. The research population consisted of 40 teachers, and because the population size was relatively small, saturated sampling was used so that the entire population became the sample. Data were collected through observation, questionnaires with a scale of 1–7, interviews, and documentation. Data analysis was performed using the Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) method with Partial Least Square (PLS) to test the direct and indirect effects between variables.
The results showed that (1) leadership and competence had a positive and significant effect on teacher commitment, while the work environment had no significant effect on commitment. Furthermore, (2) leadership and competence also have a positive effect on teacher performance, while the work environment has no significant effect. (3) Commitment is proven to mediate the influence of leadership and competence on teacher performance, but does not mediate the influence of the work environment. In conclusion, improvements in teacher performance are more influenced by internal factors such as effective leadership, adequate competence, and strong commitment, while external factors such as the work environment are not the main determinants.
